So, you are building a new PC with the latest PC components right out of the box.
But, after attaching every key component to the motherboard, you saw a little orange-yellow light on motherboard.
What does orange light on motherboard mean?
An Orange Light on the motherboard means there is a problem with the DRAM, not the motherboard. The QLED Indicator remains ON until the problem with the DRAM is solved. To fix the motherboard light orange, insert One memory stick at a time.
In this post, I will be providing you a detailed Guide on Motherboard LEDs and how to fix them.
So, buckle up and Keep Reading the entire post.
Why does my motherboard flash orange?
Your motherboard flashes light orange color because of a faulty hardware component, specifically DRAM. Whenever the DRAM is loosely attached to the motherboard, your PC won’t boot up. Clean the DRAM Connecting finger as well as the RAM Slots.
You can troubleshoot your motherboard by seeing the QLED indicators.
So, you may ask:
How to find QLED indicators on a motherboard?
QLED indicators are seen near the 24pin power supply interface of ASUS motherboards. However, Older motherboards have only one LED Indicator that shows a red light when faces an error. To check if your mainboard is equipped with QLED, go to PRoduct Specs from the Manufacturer’s Support page.
There are four LED on Motherboard that indicates problems related to the certain hardware component. The corresponding light stays on standby until the hardware problem is solved.
Red Light – Problem with the CPU
Orange Light – Problem with DRAM
White Light – VGA Problem
Green Light – No Boot Problem
The LED Lights on Motherboard remain ON until the issue with the hardware is fixed completely.
In most cases, yellow light on Asus motherboard means DRAM Problem. In fewer cases, it’s a problem with the BIOS Driver.
For gigabyte b365m ds3h, orange light indicates a problem with the memory slot, and for gigabyte b450m ds3h, orange light indicates improper functioning of memory card. For all these three cases, remove the dust from the Slots and connecting fingers of RAM.
But, for Dell Computers, Orange Light means there is something wrong with the Power supply.
How to Troubleshoot Orange Light Errors on a Motherboard
Your motherboard may show red, white, green, and orange (or yellow) lights depending on the corresponding hardware problem.
But, in this post, I will be talking about the yellow light on motherboard. Before performing any of the steps, you should;
- Gather a Screw Driver
- Wear Gloves to Avoid any ESD Damage.
If the DRAM LED remains ON,
Here are the steps to fix motherboard Orange Light issue:
1. Remove the DRAM from the Motherboard
You should know the exact steps to detach and attach a memory to the motherboard. On either side of the memory slot, you will find a tab. Press down the tab and remove the RAM.
If you have two RAMs, you can remove the other RAM in the same way.
2. Check and Clean Memory Connecting Fingers and Memory Slot
Specks of Dirt are the villains for ruining your PC. It is recommended to clean the PC at least once monthly. Check if the DRAM Connecting fingers or the memory slot has any dirt or not. Clean the component using a tissue or Q-tip. Don’t use any rough material to clean hardware components.
3. Install DRAM Properly
There is a notch on the memory card as well as the Memory Slot. Match the notches and place the DRAM properly back to its position. Firmly Press the DRAM stick down from both ends. You will hear a proper clicking sound ensuring that the RAM is attached to the proper place.
4. Check the DRAM QVL List
If the DRAM LED is still orange, replace the RAM with one on the Memory Support List on your manufacturer’s page. Note that, not all RAMs are supported by specific model Motherboards.
5. Reinstall Stock Cooler and CPU
You will find four plastic pins around the socket of the Cooler. Rotate the pins in the indicated direction. Gently Pull the CPU cooler off. Don’t be too harsh. Otherwise, you will remove the CPU from the heatsink. Press the Retention arm on the side of the socket to lift up the socket lid.
Touch the edge of the processor and take the CPU out. Don’t touch the bottom contact surface. And now, clean the contact surface with a q-tip.
Also, check if the CPU Pins are bent or not. If they are bent, contact your retailer immediately.
Match the CPU notches with the socket notches and place the CPU back to its position. Hook the Retention arm firmly and place the CPU Cooler back to its original position by rotating the plastic pins.
6. Update BIOS to Latest Version
Update the BIOS to its latest version and check if your CPU is in the QVL List. For beginners who want to make their first custom build, this unmatched combination is commonly seen. Go to the Manufacturer’s Support page and check if the Motherboard Supports your CPU.
7. Replace the Power Supply
This process might be awkward as it sounds. Because for newly bought components, all the products are fresh and right out of the box.
But still, release the load of the Power supply by detaching the HDDs. Try Booting your device again. If the problem still persists and your PC won’t boot then, replace the power supply. These problems mainly occur in Dell’s PC. Matching the power supply is very important because a wrong PSU may result in PC burn.
Frequently Asked Questions
