Now, many options can be most suited to your monitor. But your requirements need to align with the features these models offer
Since 1440p is the new sweet spot for gaming, you need to be cautious while choosing. Especially in multiplayer gaming, such resolution always gives you a competitive edge during intensive gameplay.
You wouldn’t want to miss out on that advantage. Or would you?
I bet you won’t. And that is why my comprehensive review on some of the best GPUs would help you a lot. Therefore, let’s wait no time and jump right into the review.
Here are the best GPUs for 1440p 144Hz:
1. ASUS ROG Strix NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3090
As a brand, ASUS needs no new introduction. For the gaming peripherals, they have been one of the finest options to get. With that said, all the components I used from them turned out to be much more potent. Especially the PC components under the ROG series are always top-tier.
This GPU under the ROG series comes with the following features:
- 2nd Generation RT Cores
- Axial tech fan design
- GPU Tweak II
- Video Memory: 24 GB
This GPU is the next iteration of the RTX 3080. It was mainly introduced to give a performance bump over the RTX 3090.
As a GPU, this is a top-end option from the brand. The best part is that you cannot typecast this model as specialized for specific options. It exceeds that barrier of gaming and visualization-specific models.
Now, whether you are an overclocker or high-end gamer, this GPU can serve your purpose. ASUS did a great job in incorporating something that meets the need of both ends.
Let’s talk a bit about the design.
In my opinion, the whole scheme is terrific. Compared to the RTX 3080 card, there are a lot of minor improvements. The PCB has a perfect pattern and also the VRM is quite durable.
In terms of performance, I would say it is way ahead of the RTX 3080. It thumps the RTX 3080 by a margin of 18% in terms of 4K benchmarking. Besides, this model is way faster than the models like RTX 2080 Super and RTX 2080 Ti. And to be honest, the margin is again too damn high, which is over 80%.
Isn’t that staggering? I believe it is.
Such traits eventually make this graphics chip highly suited to enthusiast-class builds. If you use this in your build, I can assure you that you can seamlessly run many games at 90 FPS.
However, this GPU can be a tad noisy. When I tested it under loads, the sound levels went above 40 dBA. Such levels aren’t for you if you prefer quieter operations.
Apart from this, the pricing of this graphics card is high. The people who are on a short budget may find it
difficult to buy.
But you have the money to spend; I would highly suggest you go for it.
Pros-
- Great for 4K gaming
- Superb overclocking abilities
- Way faster than predecessor models
Cons-
- Expensive
- It can often get noisy
2. Gigabyte Aorus Radeon RX 6900 XT Master
Gigabyte is one of those brands that you can always rely on. They have been in the PC component market for a very long time, producing some of the best of class gaming peripherals. That said, this graphics card from them can be a quality option to serve the needs of a 1440p monitor.
It comes with the following notable specs:
- Video Memory: 16 GB
- RGB Fusion 2.0
- LCD Edge View
This model is the finance flagship model that you’ll find in the market. It is genuinely fast and is the epitome of what a high-end model should be.
As a GPU for 1440p monitors, this model is a terrific choice for 4K gaming. The best part is that you can even play at lower resolution with high refresh rates.
The design looks simple, and the three fans present do a pretty good job in heat ventilation. But the fans present are loud. When I was testing, the fans did produce some highly noticeable noise.
In terms of overclocking performance, this model turned out well. I saw around 6-7% gains over the predecessor models. That said, for the 1440p monitors, this GPU does work just well enough. Also, the energy-efficient output makes it a viable choice.
The price for this model is also lower than RTX 3090, making it an excellent case for people who are short of budget for that very model. However, the pricing of this model itself is high.
So, you need to keep this thing in mind.
Moreover, apart from a few drawbacks, this card has some good prospects to offer. Do give it a shot if it meets your needs.
Pros-
- Energy Efficient
- Suitable for 4K gaming
- Cheaper than RTX 3090
Cons-
- Fans often get loud
3. Gigabyte Aorus RTX 3080 Xtreme
The Aorus series of GPUs from GIgabyte always have something unique to offer. Especially this model from them is highly focused on 1440p monitors.
As a GPU, this model features some of the finest specs:
- Video Memory: 10 GB
- Memory Bandwidth: 760 GB/s
- 6 video outputs
- 2nd Gen RT cores
This model is a flagship option from the brand. It is one of the very best you’ll get from the GeForce RTX 30 series line of GPUs.
If you have used any of the models from this series before, you would know how the design scheme is. This model looks quite identical to them. The shroud in it is pretty unconventional, where you can see the fans and heatsinks getting a bit of exposure.
Besides, this model sports a triple-fan cooling scheme, which eases the cooling process.
And that is because the fan design enables an alternate arrangement that initiates a superb cooling performance.
Now, I found this GPU to be super thick. In fact, you’ll hardly find any model as thick as this model. Such type of thickness makes this card super durable.
The design of this card also looks top-notch, mainly due to the metal backplate. And that said, this model has a better design than the models from the previous generations.
The RGB bling of this card leaves no room for complaint. What you’ll love the most is that there exists an LCD, where you can show animated GIFs or even custom texts.
At the time of testing, I added the GPU temps, which looked pretty good. Moreover, I bet that you’ll be impressed by the customizability.
Let’s talk about the performance now. For gaming, this graphics is a handy option. And when I considered pixel shading, it offers better performance than GeForce GTX 2080 Super, which is similarly priced.
It is the proper Ultra-HD graphics card that uses a traditional rendering process.
To sum up, it is an impressive model that will be worth the price you’ll be paying for.
Pros-
- Excellent build-up
- Good cooling performance
- Noise tolerable under loads
- 4-year warranty
Cons-
- Not for SFF builds
4. ASUS TUF Gaming RX 6800 XT OC
This model from the TUF line of GPUs from ASUS can be a worthy option for your build with a 1440p monitor.
It comes with the notable specs mentioned below:
- Video Memory: 16 GB
- Aluminum shroud
- Axial-tech fan design
ASUS may be revered for their ROG series of products. But their TUF line of GPUs falls no short. The gaming components that belong to this series aren’t something mainstream.
That said, this model from them is a serious contender for your 1440p monitor.
It is such a GPU that hardly has plastic in its build-up. The all-metal framing makes it a pretty durable option. Besides, a military-grade aesthetic gives it a hard-hitting characteristic.
The heatsink is massive, and it comes with more Vrams than any of its competitors. Now, talking about the competitors, it is somewhat close to RTX 3080 in terms of raytracing. But that doesn’t make it any less.
The raytracing hardware it possesses isn’t meant only for gaming. At the time of content creation, there will be a considerable boost.
Also, the fans do an excellent job keeping the temps at an optimum level under the loads. The noise level is also tolerable.
The price is high for the card, which might be an issue for many. Other than this, it is a potent option for 4K gaming.
Pros-
- Less noisy
- Good build-up
Cons-
- Expensive
5. Zotac Amp Holo RTX 3070
My fifth GPU in this list is from Zotac. The model that I have added here is the latest iteration of RTX 3070 from the brand.
It comes with the following specs:
- Video Memory: 8 GB
- Holoblack design
- 2nd Gen Ray Tracing Cores
Like a graphics card, this model comes with one a unique design. At first glance, I was very impressed. It sports such a scheme that would catch the eye of anyone.
In short, it is visually very appealing.
The total electroplated finish on the shroud looks breathtaking, in my opinion. It gives the shroud a nice iridescent touch. And the ever glowing RGB lighting acts as a cherry on the top.
Now, as for the build-up, this video card is damn good. The metal wraparound backplate present in it makes it a very durable option. You might be thinking that I am overpraising
the physical traits of this card.
But if you ask someone trustworthy who has used this card, I bet they would give you a similar opinion.
In terms of performance, this card fared up well. For games like RDR2, it offers more than 100 FPS. And other than this, the majority of games will run at 144 FPS at ease.
The noise levels were also tolerable in my testing. I found nothing noisy even under extreme loads.
Besides, thermal performance was also top-notch.
The only downside this GPU has is its memory size of 8 GB. It can limit 1440p gaming to some extent.
Other than this, it is a decent video card for the price you’ll be paying.
Pros-
- Excellent design
- Great RGB
- Reasonable price
Cons-
- Video memory low
6. PowerColor Red Devil RX 6800 XT
For the 1440p monitors, this model from Powercolor can be a potent choice. It belongs to the Red Devil line of GPUs, which are known to be high-end.
That said, this model sports the following notable specifications:
- Video Memory: 16 GB
- PCIe Express 4.0
- AMD Infinity Cache
If you wish to experience something high-end from this very brand, this video card will make your wish come true. This model promises to deliver the best of class performance that you will need for your 1440p monitor.
As a flagship option, this GPU has much to offer. It comes with a triple-slot design, which enables 3x fans to ensure optimum cooling performance.
Since I brought up cooling, the heatsink does a great job in keeping the card cool in association with the fans.
The best part is that during heavy gaming, you won’t face any sort of noisy situation. What makes it better is the presence of an idle-fan stop feature. Whether you are doing something casual like watching movies, browsing the internet, or light gaming, this feature will ensure that the fan isn’t unnecessarily required.
In terms of performance, I would say this GPU is excellent for 4K gaming. I was easily able to game at 60fps. However, you will feel that there is a loss of performance in the case of Ray tracing. Especially compared to the competitors from NVIDIA, there is a slight dip in the output.
Apart from this, the power efficiency is something to laud.
Other than this, I didn’t really like the pricing of this model. It could have been much more reasonable. But if that is not an issue, you are free to go with this model.
Pros-
- Suitable for 4K gaming
- Less noisy
- Great power efficiency
Cons-
- Price high
- Ray tracing could have been better
7. MSI Gaming Radeon RX 6800 XT
MSI is the brand to look for gaming components. It is the brand that has become popular over the years for its top-tier gaming products. That said, they have some decent graphics cards in the market currently.
This model is one of those, and it comes with the following notable features:
- Video Memory: 8 GB
- TORX fan 3.0
- 3x Display Port
This is one of the finest options from MSI that you can avail of for your gaming build.
Especially the design is futuristic and top-class. To be honest, I found the design better than any of the models from the RTX 20 series from the same brand.
The whole outlook is fresh with no unnecessary bling. Such a trait will eventually attract the minimalists towards this particular GPU. And to be honest, MSI actually had this thing in their mind while giving this model such a scheme in the design.
You might be skeptical about the cooling performance as this model has only two fans. It is fair enough to have such doubts. But believe me, these two fans are the best of class. They have a unique design, which enables alternate spinning of blades. Eventually, the cooling performance isn’t any less of a GPU with 3x fans.
Isn’t it amazing? I believe it is. But that’s not the end, as this GPU has more to offer.
When I tested it, the noise levels were alright, even during heavy gaming. The levels never breached 40 dBA. Besides, I managed to reach the max boost during overclocking, unlike the other models from this list.
However, the power consumption for this model is on the higher side. As a result, you might feel that this model is less power efficient. Also, I felt that the fay tracing performance was dang average.
Apart from all these, the price is not that high, making this GPU suitable for all buyers.
Pros–
- Good overclocking potential
- Less noisy under loads
- Good pricing
Cons-
- Ray tracing average
- Not power efficient
